Camelot wheel
Twenty-four codes. A is minor, B is major, and the number is the position on the circle of fifths. One step up is a perfect fifth.
What mixes cleanly
Sonata calls a pair In key in three cases: the same code, one step either way on the same ring, or the same number on the other ring (the relative major or minor). Everything else is a key clash, including two steps and a diagonal step.
The energy boost most DJs mean is +2, two steps up the wheel, for example 8A to 10A. It is a bigger lift, and Sonata flags it as a key clash. +7 semitones is not that move: it is the perfect fifth, which is already the one-step-up code. Seven Camelot numbers is one semitone, and that clashes too. Tracks are never transposed to hide any of this. The energy boost guide is the long version.
