Sonata

Camelot key checker

Pick a key, or two. Sonata calls a pair In key when it is the same key, one step on the wheel, or the relative major or minor. The +2 energy boost is explained here, and it is a key clash.

8A · A minor

In key

  • 8A A minorSame key. Key clash: no.

8A into 8A is the same key. Sonata calls that In key.

  • 7A D minorOne step down. Key clash: no.

8A into 7A (D minor) is one step down the wheel. Sonata calls that In key.

  • 9A E minorOne step up. Key clash: no.

8A into 9A (E minor) is one step up, a perfect fifth, seven semitones. Sonata calls that In key. It is the usual small lift.

  • 8B C majorRelative major or minor. Key clash: no.

8A into 8B (C major) is the same number on the other ring. Sonata calls that In key.

Energy boost +2

  • 10A B minorEnergy boost +2. Key clash: yes.

8A into 10A (B minor) is two steps up, a whole tone. DJs call this an energy boost. It is not a smooth match, and Sonata flags it as a key clash.

What +7 means

  • 3A B♭ minorSeven numbers. Key clash: yes.

8A into 3A (B♭ minor) is seven Camelot numbers, one semitone between the tonics. That is a key clash, not a boost. When a note says "+7" and means seven semitones, it is the one-step-up move above.

Seven semitones is a perfect fifth. On this wheel that is one step up, already listed under In key. Seven Camelot numbers is a different move, and it clashes.

Each code has its own page on the Camelot wheel. The set planning guide uses the same rules. The +2 move is written out in harmonic mixing energy boosts.
