Rekordbox USB export not working

Checks when a rekordbox export does not show on a player. Library type, missing files, and the file system, from AlphaTheta's own FAQ and USB export guide.

Guides/Rekordbox USB export not working

A stick can leave rekordbox looking finished and still show nothing on a player. The usual causes on AlphaTheta's own pages are the library type, a file rekordbox can no longer find, or a file system the player does not list. Work through them in that order. Formatting the stick again is the last step, not the first, because a convert can wipe playlists that live only in one library.

See which library the player reads

rekordbox writes two databases onto a USB device. Device Library is the older one, in use since about 2009. OneLibrary, formerly Device Library Plus, is the newer one, since 2023. Both can sit on the same stick. Playlists and histories saved in one do not show on a player that reads the other.

The USB Export Guide says which library a model reads depends on the player, and it points at rekordbox's compatibility page for the grid. This guide does not guess the cell for a model that the FAQ does not name. If your player is not in the list below, check that page and the player's manual.

Export OneLibrary when the player needs it

rekordbox's OneLibrary FAQ says the CDJ-3000X browses tracks and playlists on a USB device only if OneLibrary has been exported. The same procedure applies to the CDJ-1500X, OPUS-QUAD, OMNIS-DUO, XDJ-AZ, and XDJ-AN. The same answer is on the troubleshooting FAQ.

1. Update rekordbox 7 from the Help menu, rekordbox update manager. 2. Connect the USB device. 3. In the Media Browser, open Devices, then the drive, right-click OneLibrary, and choose Convert from Device Library.

After that, exports go to both libraries. Converting when a OneLibrary is already on the stick overwrites it. Playlists and histories stored only in OneLibrary are lost. A OneLibrary cannot be converted back into a Device Library. Export Playlist is the step that writes a playlist into both.

Find files rekordbox marks as missing

If a track's file moved, rekordbox shows File is Missing and you may not be able to play or export it. Auto Relocate and Relocate are the two repairs. Auto Relocate searches the folders set under Preferences, Advanced, Database, Auto Relocate Search Folders. Relocate lets you point at the file. You can open them from File, Display All Missing Files, or from the track's context menu.

Changing the file extension is different. rekordbox says the track must be imported again. Relocate and Auto Relocate cannot be used for files listed as missing after an extension change, because the analysis no longer matches. That answer is here.

Check the file system after the library

A supported library on an unsupported file system still fails. rekordbox's troubleshooting note says an exported card or stick that a player does not recognize may be formatted in a system that player does not support. exFAT is called out on its own: only listed players are available, and other players should use a file system other than exFAT. The list, and the XDJ-XZ's own formats, are in FAT32 and exFAT. If the player will not mount the stick at all, use CDJ will not read your USB.

What Sonata writes, and what it does not

Sonata's USB tracks export, on Pro and marked beta, copies each track and writes a legacy Pioneer library (the older Device Library style). It does not write OneLibrary (the exportLibrary.db database). A CDJ-3000X, or another player that only browses OneLibrary, will not show that stick just because Sonata wrote it. For those players, export from rekordbox so OneLibrary is on the device.

Sonata only writes the top of an empty stick, or a stick that holds only its own mix folders. A stick that already has a library is refused and nothing is written. Nothing already on the stick is deleted. It has not been tested on every deck. The mix-file export is separate: one WAV or MP3 plus a tracklist, with no cues and no beatgrid. Free includes WAV for one mix of up to 10 tracks. MP3, rekordbox playlist and XML, and USB tracks are on Pro.

Hear the set first, then export. The set planning guide covers the listen-through.
