CDJ will not read your USB
Format, library, and file checks when a CDJ or XDJ does not show a USB stick, from Pioneer and AlphaTheta FAQs. No stick-size limit is stated, because those pages do not give one.
When a player ignores a stick, split the fault in two. Either the player cannot mount the device, or it mounts the device and has no library it knows how to browse. The first is format and partition. The second is how rekordbox exported.
Confirm the player and the port
Try the stick in the player you will actually use, not only in a laptop. A file that opens on the computer can still be the wrong library for that deck. If another stick works in the same port, the port is less likely to be the fault. If no stick works, the player's own manual and Pioneer support are the next stop. This page does not cover hardware repair.
Format the stick in a system that player lists
rekordbox's troubleshooting FAQ says an exported SD card or USB device that DJ equipment does not recognize may be formatted in an unsupported file system. If the system is exFAT, only the players on rekordbox's exFAT list are available. For other equipment, format to a system other than exFAT. The named list, dated July 2026, is in FAT32 and exFAT.
Do not copy one model's list onto another. AlphaTheta's note for the XDJ-XZ says that unit supports FAT, FAT32, exFAT, and HFS+. NTFS is not supported. Firmware updates for that unit want FAT or FAT32. A Mac GUID Partition Map is not supported, and Mac Extended (case-sensitive) may not be recognized. Those sentences are about the XDJ-XZ. Another player needs its own manual.
The rekordbox FAQ that asks which file system to format to points at the exFAT list and at Pioneer DJ support. When that answer was checked, it did not include a single named list of systems for every rekordbox install, so this page does not invent one.
Give the player a library it can browse
A stick in a supported format can still show no tracks. The CDJ-3000X browses USB tracks and playlists only when OneLibrary has been exported. rekordbox names the same requirement for the CDJ-1500X, OPUS-QUAD, OMNIS-DUO, XDJ-AZ, and XDJ-AN. The steps, and the warning that Convert from Device Library overwrites an existing OneLibrary, are in Rekordbox USB export not working.
Device Library and OneLibrary coexist. Histories and playlists made on one do not appear on a player that reads the other. Export Playlist in rekordbox writes the playlist to both.
Files, names, and size
Missing files cannot be exported. Use Auto Relocate or Relocate, as the export guide describes. A changed extension has to be imported again.
This page does not state a maximum stick size or a maximum audio file size. The Pioneer and AlphaTheta pages checked for it do not give one. Sonata's own mix-file export refuses a mix it estimates at over 4 GB. That is Sonata's limit, not a figure from those manuals. USB tracks in Sonata copies the original MP3, WAV, or AIFF files and does not time-stretch them.
If you prepare the order in Sonata, hear it before you copy anything to a stick. The key checker is separate from the file system: a clash flag will not stop a player from reading a file, and a perfect file system will not fix a library the player does not read.
